Lights Out Basketball Maui went 8-1 in a pair of recent Las Vegas tournaments, coming home with gold and silver medals from the seventh-grade division.

In the Las Vegas Classic, held last Tuesday through Thursday, Lights Out claimed the championship with a perfect 5-0 run.

Lights Out opened with a 58-34 win over Team Opencourt Basketball Club from Oahu and followed that with victories over Tacoma (Wash.) Swish 67-19 and OC (Calif.) Rebels 69-39. In the semifinals, Lights Out topped Seattle Select Warriors 64-53 before taking down NorCal Elite in the championship, 50-39.

The next day, the Maui squad began play in the three-day Las Vegas Showtime. They defeated Palo Alto (Calif.) Flight 69-36 and TQ (Calif.) 49-33 before toppling SBC Select (Ore.) in the semifinals, 62-53. In the championship final, they fell to Oahu’s Eastside Basketball Club 57-43.

Members of Lights Out were Johann Sotto, Raiden Agustin, Kili Mata-Goldmann, Reign Agrigado, Reagan Aguas, Marcus Nakoa, CJ Jenkins, Ryze Pagan and Kanalu Pihana. Coaches were Jeremy Lizada, John Sotto, Shaun Nava and Mark Goldmann.
