Basil Smikle is an American policy strategist and policy analyst. He is also a professor, lecturing on policy and politics.

Early Life and Education :

• Basil Anthony Smikle, Jr., was born on January 12, 1972, in New York City, to Jamaican parents. His father was a textile worker, and his mother was a special education teacher in the public school system.
• Growing up in the Bronx borough of New York City, Basil he attended various parochial schools.
• From 1989 to 1993, Basil attended Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial and Labour Relations.
• From 1994 to 1996, he went on to attend Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs. He graduated with a Master’s degree in Public Science.
• In February 2019, he also received his doctorate in Politics and Education from Columbia University.

Personal Life, Parents and Family Details :

• Basil met Marjorie Fields Harris, the woman who would become his wife, in January 2000. Marjorie was working at the time as the Executive Director of Reverend Al Sharpton’s civil rights organization, the National Action Network. Basil was attending a meeting at the Network to set up an appearance for then-senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, as he was her top aide at the time.
• In March of the same year, Basil proposed to Marjorie, and the two were wed on May 26, 2001, at the St George Episcopal Church in Manhattan. They divorced some years later.
• Basil continues to reside in NYC and describes himself as a ‘Lifelong New Yorker.’

Career, Income, Salary and Net Worth :

• From June 1996 to December 2000, Basil was a special assistant for the Bronx borough President at the time, Fernando Ferrer.
• He then became the deputy state director and senior aide for Hillary Clinton’s first campaign for the Senate in 2001, and stayed on as part of her Senate staff until 2003.
• In September 2003, he founded Basil Smikle Associates, through which he offers his expertise in political strategy, public affairs, and communication.
• Since September 2006, Basil has been an Adjunct Professor at Columbia University.
• Since September 2008, he has also been an Adjunct Professor at the City University of New York. In February 2018, he was also made a Distinguished Lecturer in Politics and Public Policy at the Murphy Institute.
• Since April 2015, Smikle also serves an executive director on the New York State Democratic Committee.
• He frequently appears as an analyst on CNN and MSNBC.
