Judas release date speculation, story, gameplay

July 2024 · 3 minute read

When is the Judas release date? It’s been a long time since Ken Levine’s last project, Bioshock Infinite, but he’s back with a new IP from his new studio Ghost Story Games. Announced at The Game Awards, Judas is drawing attention given its strong similarities to the seminal Bioshock series.

Below you will find everything we currently know about Ghost Story Games’ new single-player, narrative-driven first-person shooter Judas, which could be one of the best PS5 games and best Xbox games when it releases. And, you will be able to get an overview of the new, wacky world he and the team have created.

Judas release date speculation

We expect the Judas release date to be sometime in late 2024 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The game is set to launch before March 2025, as confirmed in a recent Take-Two financial report and confirmed via IGN.

While we have yet to hear an official release window for the game, we expect more information about Judas by the end of 2023. Hopefully, it won’t be long until we know when the new IP will finally arrive.

Judas story

Information on the Judas story is currently very light, with only the broad outline of a ‘disintegrating starship’ and a ‘desperate escape plan’ to go on in terms of narrative. However, it is known that you play as Judas, a mysterious and troubled woman whose only hope of survival aboard this broken spaceship is to make or break alliances with her enemies. Innovative narrative twists have also been promised by the studio.

From the official reveal trailer shown at The Game Awards, Judas seems to share lots of similarities with Bioshock so it’s likely we’re in for an intricate and twisted story packed with unique and interesting characters.

What’s more, if Judas takes after Bioshock, the environment of the starship Judas finds herself aboard will likely feel like a character all of its own, akin to the beloved Rapture or Columbia from the developer’s previous work at Irrational Games. From the trailer, the ship looks like a luxury ship gone wrong, much like Rapture was intended as the perfect city until it collapsed. No matter how the story plays out, Judas will surely be oozing atmosphere.

Judas gameplay

Broadly, Judas is a first-person shooter reminiscent of Bioshock and System Shock. In the trailer, we see Judas holding a variety of weapons, including a hammer, a shotgun, and a makeshift crossbow made up of cogs and a chain. Most interestingly, however, we see that Judas can wield some sort of power in her left hand while holding a firearm in the other.

From the trailer, it’s clear that Judas at least has access to a lightning bolt power and a type of fire power as well, though there’s a possibility for even greater powers. If Judas follows suit with the developer’s prior work in the immersive-sim genre, then experimenting with an arsenal of inventive weapons and powers to create engaging combat encounters will be central to the experience.

That’s everything we currently know ahead of the Judas release date, the new narrative first-person shooter from the minds behind Bioshock and System Shock. With Bioshock typically landing on the best games of all time lists, we expect Judas to be a great experience.
